Council is continuing to invest in improvements in all aspects of the course. We are pleased to provide an outline of the main improvements below.

We have reskinned the practice nets adjacent to the 1st tee so balls will no longer get through the netting.

For those who have played recently you would also have noticed a resurfaced path area on the 2nd tee South. We are trialing a new matting under the path which will provide greater long term strength and stability. If this works as expected you will see improvements in all paths in high wear areas as we roll this out across the course over the next few years.

At this stage we will be closing the first tee on the South Course from Wednesday 8th November through to Friday 10th November while an additional tee area is created in front of the existing 1st tee. A temporary tee will be set up on the driving range area over this period. The additional tee area will help contribute to better quality tee particularly in future winter periods where limited sunlight and high use has seen the tee become quite worn.

From Monday 13th November the 1st green will be closed while it is reconstructed. A temporary green has been developed in front of the existing green and will be used until the 1st green is open again later this year.

We are also developing a temporary green on the 11th Hole South course in November with the 11th green due to be reconstructed in February. The construction of the temporary green should have minimal impact on play except for a few days during construction phase.

You will notice some additional bays near the existing driving range mats but on the second hole. These will be available only for Coaches based at the course to carry out lessons. The advantage being it will free up some bays on the Driving range so you can get that extra practice in with no wait times!

Council is about to undertake a significant upgrade to the path which runs between Strangways Terrace and War Memorial Drive behind the 10th green/11th tee on the South Course, also behind the 2nd tee North Course. The construction should have minimal impact on golfers.

We are also commencing some works on the Horticulture Shed in October to bring the refueling area up to modern Environmental Standards. The works should not have any impact on golfers but will result in trucks entering the course, sometimes from War Memorial Drive, as required to provide materials ie cement and materials for new roofing over the refueling pad. We will be working with contractors to ensure they minimise any disruption to play.

As well as course improvements we have increased course marshalling to make playing better for all parties. Abiding by the course requirements which can be found at the course website helps ensure maintenance can be carried out in the most efficient manner possible and your support is appreciated. A reminder that all players:

  • are required to check in prior to starting their round
  • must only use one ball
  • must play the holes starting no sooner than the booked tee time and in correct numerical order
  • maximum of 4 in a group
  • keep up with the group in front of you

As always please contact our friendly Customer Service staff should you like some more details on the above.
